Swimming is the most popular competitive sport at the Y. The Y hosts state, regional and national championships annually, helping kids value hard work, reach for excellence and enjoy spirited competition.

EVALUATIONS ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL NEW SWIMMERS.
YMCA FULL PRIVILEGE MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED FOR ALL MEMBERS OF SWIM TEAM.

 

ORANGE GROUP (Ages 6-8)

For youth who can perform the four competitive strokes and are ready to learn more advanced stroke skills and technique. Stroke, turn and start instruction are emphasized. Fun and participation while building a love for swimming is the focus.

 

WHITE GROUP (Ages 9-12)

Competitive training is introduced. Emphasis is still on stroke technique and proper skills. Practice includes dry land.

 

BLUE GROUP (Ages 10-14)

Transitional level where swimmers move from primarily stroke instruction to actual competitive training. Swimmers are motivated and committed to be their best. Emphasis is on preparation for higher levels of training and competition. Good technique is of utmost importance. Practice includes dry land.

 

PRE SENIOR GROUP (Ages 12-14)

For athletes with desire and ability to train and compete at the highest levels. Swimmers will train to compete at the local and regional level with goals of competing at the YMCA National Level. Practice time includes dry land.

 

SENIOR ELITE GROUP (Girls ages 13 and up, Boys ages 14 and up)

For athletes with desire and ability to train and compete at the regional level with focus on competing at the YMCA Nationals. Practice time includes dry land. Before entering the Senior group, all swimmers must have a meeting with the head coach with their parents present. This group requires a year-round commitment.

 

SENIOR GROUP (Ages 14 & up)

For High School age athletes with desire and ability to train and compete at the highest levels. Swimmers will train to compete at local and regional levels with goals of competing at the YMCA National Level.

 

HIGH SCHOOL PREP GROUP

This group is for high school aged athletes. There are four practices per week prior to the High School season and three practices per week during the High School season. These swimmers will not be permitted to compete in YMCA dual meets. They are welcome to participate in YMCA/USA invitational meets.

 

ADDITIONAL COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS

 

ZOOMERS PROGRAM (Ages 8 & under)

For the swimmer who has completed YMCA’s Flying Fish level skills and wants to continue into competitive swimming. There is a novice competitive experience offered. (This group does not compete as part of the competitive team.) This group meets once a week.

 

PRE-TEAM (Ages 9 - 12)

For swimmers interested in joining a competitive team. There will be two practices per week and a meet offered for this group.

 

COMPETITIVE STROKE CLINIC (Ages 12 and up)

The Ocean County YMCA’s Competitive Stroke Clinic is designed for the competitive swimmer who wishes to maintain their aerobic base while continuing to improve their skills in all four strokes.

 

MASTERS SWIM TEAM (Ages 19 & up)

Masters is an adult competitive swim team for ages 19 & up. If you enjoy swimming laps, join our Masters Swim Team. Members may choose to compete in swim meets, or swim laps for fun with the group. Register for each program session. For more information, contact masterscoach@ocytigersharks.org
